New fiscal year 2008 Budget Standards for Veterans and Widows of Veterans
Some time ago I told you about a person who came into my office to see if they could get some financial assistance. That person was receiving only $550.00 at the time, from Social Security. Under the present budget standards for 2008 she would receive $671 from Veterans’ Services if she was over 65, had less than $1600 in the bank and paid at least $461 per month for rent. Basically, if you are single, a veteran or veterans’ widow, you are entitled to the following monthly budget:
Standard for FY 2008
|
Living alone |
w/Spouse |
Ordinary living expenses |
$575 |
$775 |
Heated shelter |
$519 |
$519 |
Miscellaneous |
$281 Est. |
$562 Est. |
Total |
$1375 |
$1856 |
Now if you get any income from any source, it will be deducted from these totals. In determining eligibility for these benefits such as: you cannot have over $1600. for a single (living alone) or $3200.00 with a spouse.
To find out about more entitlements call Dick Martin at 781-834-5576. If you are in doubt, come in and take a few minutes to determine if you are entitled to veteran’s benefits. Bring your separation papers from the service. (Discharge Papers) These are entitlements that ensure veterans do not live a substandard quality of life.
Please share this information with veterans or their widows.
