The Board of Selectmen serves as the Executive Branch of Town government. The Board is comprised of three members, each elected to a three-year term. The Selectmen provide policy guidance for all Town departments except for the School Department, which is overseen by the School Committee.
The following departments report to the Board of Selectmen through the Town Administrator: Town Accountant, Animal Control, Board of Appeals, Building, Conservation, Council on Aging, Fire Department, Library, Police, Recreation, Treasurer/Collector, and the Veterans Agent.
The Board of Selectmen, in conjunction with the financial team, develop budget strategy and provide general oversight of the budget process. The Board, through the Town Administrator, is the Town's collective bargaining representative for all unions except those that fall under the School Committee.
The Board of Selectmen is charged with the duty of appointing those serving on boards or committees that are not elected. The Board is also the licensing authority for alcohol and motor vehicle retailers
