Department Information: The Planning Department is staffed by the Town Planner and the Executive Assistant.  They serves as the professional and administrative staff for the five member elected Planning Board.

The Board reviews all preliminary and definitive subdivision plans as required by M.G.L. Ch. 41 Sec. 81 - K to 81 - GG and the Marshfield Subdivision Rules and Regulations. The Board reviews all Approval Not Required (ANR) Plans as required by M.G.L. Ch. 41 Sec. 81-L and 81-P. The Board reviews applications for the four different special permits as authorized by M.G.L. Ch.40A and the Marshfield Zoning Bylaw, including: Water Resource Protection District (WRPD); Open Space Residential Development (OSRD); Planned Mixed Use Development (PMUD); and Age-Restricted Adult Village.

The Planning Board members are also required to serve on the following town and regional boards and committees:  Community Preservation Committee, Open Space Committee, Housing Partnership, South Shore Coalition, Energy Committee and Recreation Field Committee.

The Board and staff are responsible for other areas of planning for Marshfield including the following: the long-range planning, including transportation, affordable housing, open space and recreation; review and comments on Environmental Impact Reports for large scale developments; economic planning, including working with the business community for the revitalization of the downtown area, guiding growth and development of the Enterprize Park and the Route 139 corridor and assisting prospective business owners with the development approval process.

Meeting Schedule: The Board typically meets every other Monday, and periodically conducts site visits on weekends.
