MBTA to Hold Public Meetings for Forging Ahead Effort
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is a permanent member of the MPO board. Challenged by unprecedentedly low ridership and lost fare revenue, the MBTA is facing a historic moment. Forging Ahead is the MBTA’s plan to preserve transit access and quality of service available to transit critical customers in response to changing ridership and demand as well as a projected budget gap resulting from the pandemic.
First, the MBTA is engaging in a period of public input and discussion with the Fiscal and Management Control Board (FMCB). Proposed service options will be announced in November, with time for additional public discussion into the first week of December. New service schedules will be implemented in the spring/summer of 2021.
The MBTA's public outreach process for Forging Ahead includes an online feedback form, a team of community liaisons, and a series of virtual public meetings.
Want to share your feedback on the MBTA's approach? Have details about a specific rail line or route?
The MBTA is holding 11 public meetings over Zoom (nine regional meetings, two system-wide meetings). You can join by computer, smartphone app, or telephone.
Meetings will address service in a specific region. The nine regions pictured above are: 1) Metrowest, 2) Minuteman, 3) Boston and Milton, 4) Inner Core, 5) Mystic River, 6) South Shore, 7) North Shore, 8) Bristol, and 9) Merrimack Valley.
