Message Regarding Rail Trail Tree Work From Eversource

Eversource has been reviewing tree conditions along the Rail Trail/ Bridal Path between South River St and Ferry St.  We have concerns due to a number of tree failures in recent years, causing damage to the electric grid running along that path.  I attached a list of specific hazard trees we have marked in the field for removal.  There will be additional pruning to some other trees as needed.  We reviewed this work with conservation several weeks ago and satisfied their concerns.  Bill Grafton requests that we leave the hardwood stumps 6 feet tall to help with faster forest regeneration.  I have a contractor available in November (Warwick Tree Service), to begin the work.  No specific date has been set yet.  We are probably looking at a week long effort between cutting and cleaning up. The majority of the work falls between South River to Clay Pit Rd.  Some scattered work extends to Ferry St.  I stressed with Warwick that the trail must be left in good condition at the conclusion of the work and to be aware of pedestrian traffic on the path.

I just got word from Warwick tree Service.  They plan to start the tree removals along the rail trail November 21-23.  There will be some additional pruning required, likely in December.

They plan to clean up anything they cut by the end of the day Wednesday Nov. 23.  We will put up work zone signs and cones.  There will be some large equipment working.  We hope to

keep as much pedestrian traffic off the path as we can during the 3 day period.

Best Regards,
