Marshfield Senior Center Project

Greetings all and Happy New Year.

The Project Team for the Senior Center addition is off and running.

In early December, the last permit was received by the Building Committee for an upgrade to the Septic Field to accommodate the loads of the new addition.  The Town is just like any resident, we must comply with all the rules and permits and the Building Committee has strived to ensure all permits are secured.

In December, the General Contractor, Page Construction from Stoughton, isolated the area for the new addition with new construction fencing around the perimeter.  If you're driving to, or past, the Center, please note the new parking lot on the right for your convenience. The Contractor has also relocated the entrance to the Center, it is now along the driveway opposite the new parking area.

The Contractor has been busy bringing utilities through the attic space to the edge of the building, where it will connect to the new utilities after the addition is weather-tight.

We all remember the “Big Dig” in Boston, did you know the Big Dig started two years prior to digging by relocating Water, Sewer and Storm drainage out of the path of the tunnels.  We are doing the same thing, on a much smaller scale, for the Senior Center project.   Page Construction has begun to relocate the water service, sewer laterals and parking lot drainage away from the foundation of the new addition.  This work took most of December and has cleared the way for the new structure.

The Geotechnical Engineer has inspected the bearing areas for new foundations and over the next three weeks we will be installing Reinforcing Bars and Concrete to make the foundation walls.   “Re-Bar” is used for it’s amazing tensile strength, add concrete around the bars for compressive strength and the two combine for a hefty foundation material.

As Construction continues, these newsletters will continue as well. This is your building and we want you to be informed.
