2/22/2024 Update: Marshfield Community Electricity Sweep Error

Update as of February 22, 2024: Per GoodEnergy, all affected accounts have been returned to basic service, and GoodEnergy has worked with Direct Energy to develop communications for affected accounts based on whether they are owed a refund or not. The plan is to mail out notification letters on March 1st, and the checks, if applicable, will follow in the mail a few days after.

Every few months Direct Energy, the Marshfield Community Electricity program's supplier, sends an opt-out letter to all newly eligible accounts in the Town/City. These are accounts that have recently opened or have come off of third party supply. In October 2023, Direct Energy completed a sweep mailing that would enroll customers for the month of December 2023. Direct Energy caught a processing error that mistakenly enrolled 967 accounts that had previously opt-ed out and should not have been a part of the sweep. Direct Energy is now working to remove these folks from the program, back to Eversource Basic Service and solidify an outreach plan to affected accounts, which will assuredly include a letter explaining the error to affected customers. The affected accounts have been on the program's Standard product for two meter reads (December and January) and the net effect on cost is neutral, or even a small savings, for these folks over Eversource Basic Service.
